July 5, 2012. It is with deep sadness that we share the news that Professor Ben Flower, a faculty member at the University of South Florida’s College of Marine Science, passed away Sunday morning at Bayfront Hospital in Saint Petersburg, FL. He went peacefully surrounded by his family, friends, and colleagues.
Dr. Flower was a Principal Investigator in both the C-IMAGE and DEEP-C consortia supported by the Gulf of Mexico Research Initiative. His areas of interest and investigation were in paleo-oceanography and he was specifically interested in the impacts of the Deepwater Horizon incident on deep sedimentary communities. His work will continue through co-investigators, graduate students and post-doctoral fellows.
