Hi I,m a Professional artist –Animal , Enviromental and Eco system Advocate. I have a good common sense of systems— and a good sense of approaches to problems  with out the cloud of to much knowldge of a subject —?—So as a problems solving vision of how to help these areas I care deeply about—As a teen my family visited the grand canyon –and surrounding areas  –camping—-One  National park –Sun Crater—Was a huge mound of old volcanic lava  that at that time–!974–you could climb –by following spiraling path  upwards —So  in listening to the NPR story  last month -and hearing the scientist discribe the difficulty  they were facing  cleaning the peanutbutter  like goo from the marsh lands —I had spectulated earlier when the spill occurred just as when the  oil was about to reach the shore  and put this idea forward –to an agengy—–Locally I ve noticed for years  the use of pumice –{red} in commercial landscaping  as erosion control  etc..—–The Sun crater lava as I remember was more pourice -untreated –Not being a scientist—–I envision a system of out lining the marsh high tidal sawgrass waterline   with a cement truck type boom  —were in crushed lava pumice ,volcanic ash–?–a foot thick   say 2 to 3 foot deep  — at this edge   as a simi  absorbant buffer  that could be left it   slick were to come  ashore  somewere else   –eco friendly–and as a precautionary measure  —in high % areas—-this layer could be easier ?  to excavate at time of clean -up  –with backhoe arm ?etc——And the sea life may like this material  __{Hawai}—-not being a scientest this is my artistic effort to –enterject   possiblities  .  Ive heard pumice floats so  –I dunno!—I sure there would be a good supply somewere and with applied knowledge to specifics—–signed :—A starving artist.——–tommymclaurin.org   —UPDATE—-WHILE VISITING  THE COAST THIS WEEK-END—–HERE IN N.CAROLINA —AS I TRAVELED DOWN I – 40 –TO WILMINGTON NC—I CAME ACROSS THE VERY ROCK -PUMICE–I,M SPEANKING ABOUT—-ABOVE–IT SEEMS TO HAVE BEEN PUT IN PLACE BY NC DOT TO CONTROL EROSION—ALONG A SMALL SECTION OF BANKED/SLOPED AREA NEAR SEVERAL EXITS—–EVIDENTLY MY MEMORY HAD SEEN THIS MATERIAL USED IN A  MAINTAINACE TYPE  UTILIZATION BEFORE–SO IN PASSING HOMEWARD I STOPPED AND PHOTOGRAPGED A PIECE.—IT IS PUMICE OR A CRUSHED SHELL AMALGUM —I THINK PUMICE IN UNIFORM SIZES  FROM  1 LBS UP TO 5 LB. .–i HAVE A PHOTO AT MY WEB SITE —
