Peer Review

GoMRI funding decisions are made in accordance with National Science Board peer evaluation protocols.  Independent panels of peer reviewers from outside Gulf State institutions review proposals to avoid any conflict of interest.  Furthermore, all reviewers agree to Conflict of Interest and non-disclosure statements.
Accredited scientists with experience in the five research themes participate in GoMRI proposal reviews, which are facilitated by executive secretaries comprised of former NSF Program Directors.  To address the complexity of the Research Consortia proposals, panel reviews are conducted based on the five research themes with additional panels held to review outreach/education and management portions.  Proposals are reviewed based on scientific content and other criteria as established in each specific RFP.  The Research Board selects proposals to fund based on the peer review reports and rankings as well as viewing the full proposals.
