This Program Assistant provides administrative and outreach support to the C-IMAGE (The Consortium for the Integrated Modeling and Analysis of Gulf Ecosystems) research team funded by the Gulf of Mexico Research Initiative (GoMRI).

Nature of Work:

This position reports to the Assistant Director of C-IMAGE and will assist in ensuring compliance to all requirements set forth by GoMRI and the Consortium for Ocean Leadership (COL) funding agency. Tasks performed include (but are not limited to): preparing financial and activity reports, coordinating meetings, drafting and maintaining outreach content via social media resources, and acts as a liaison between C-IMAGE’s partner institutions and principal investigators within the College of Marine Science. On occasion, travel and working late hours and weekends may be required.

Minimum Requirements:

This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, with at least four years of experience in an office or administrative support position. Additional education may not be substituted for this experience requirement.

Preferred qualifications:

BS or BA in communications or a science related field. Must have organizational skills, proficiency in writing to develop reports and engaging outreach pieces, and an ability to communicate with a diverse group of scientists and administrators. Experience editing web content (HTML) and knowledge of social media marketing tools such as Facebook, Twitter, and Flickr are also preferred.

Salary Range:

$38,000-$42,000 annual

The College of Marine Science has 26 ranked faculty covering biological, chemical, geological, and physical oceanography and marine resource assessment, ~110 graduate students, ~$15 million in annual research, a total endowment of ~$18 million, ~80 full- time support personnel (including engineers, technical, and College administrative staff).

The Gulf of Mexico Research Initiative (GoMRI) investigates the impacts of the oil, dispersed oil, and dispersant on the ecosystems of the Gulf of Mexico and affected coastal States in a broad context of improving fundamental understanding of the dynamics of such events and their environmental stresses and public health implications. The GoMRI also develops improved spill mitigation, oil and gas detection, characterization and remediation technologies.

C-IMAGE (The Consortium for the Integrated Modeling and Analysis of Gulf Ecosystems) was awarded GoMRI RFP-1 and RFP- 4 totaling over 31 million dollars during the course of six years to study the impacts and long term recovery of the Gulf of Mexico’s ecosystems. C-IMAGE is one of eight consortia funded for RFP-1 by the GoMRI (2011-2014) and one of twelve funded for the RFP-4 (2015-2017).
