Opportunity: Postdoctoral Researcher – Marine Microbial Genomics

We invite applications for a postdoctoral researcher in the area of marine microbial genomics and bioinformatics.
Duties:
The successful applicant will prepare environmental samples for high throughput sequencing as well as assemble and analyze sequence data and manage next‐generation sequence workflows. Interested candidates should be highly motivated, organized, independent, and have extensive experience with molecular microbiology and bioinformatics.
Basic Qualifications:
Applicants should hold a PhD in biology, microbiology, marine science, bioinformatics or related field and have at least one year of experience in high‐throughput genome sequence analysis. The successful applicant must be interested in interdisciplinary science and undergraduate research and education and have a solid publication record that illustrates ability to conduct novel, independent research. Outstanding written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a group are required.
Appointment:
This position is supported by a grant from the Gulf Research Initiative to Haverford College and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI). The successful candidate will be based at Haverford College, but will collaborate extensively with colleagues at WHOI. Salary/benefits are based on Haverford College’s salary/benefits structure, and are commensurate with experience. The appointment is initially for a one‐year period, but is renewable for an additional year based on performance.
