The Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium (LUMCON) led Consortium, funded under GoMRI RFP-I, held its kick off meeting in Baton Rouge on February 1-2. The group shared information on the numerous component studies and invited other Consortia to present their research plans so that collaboration can be explored.
Following the meeting, Linda Hooper-Bui and Gene Turner invited colleagues to join them in sampling of fauna in oiled and unoiled marshes in the area of Bays Sansbois, Batiste, and Jimmy.
Teams in the water collected data on small fish living around the marshes, while teams on land collected insects, spiders, and fiddler crabs. The studies are examining the health of the ecosystem.
